Today’s Crafting fun

Out with the markers and aquash brushes today to paint up these cards designed by Sharon. It was challenging as we had to try out different techniques with brushes, markers, crackle medium and pearl paints. Topping this off with the new white distress marker made this something really new for our ladies. It was a little daunting to think we had to “paint” colour onto our flowers, but we were all so very impressed at just how lovely each one turned out.

Card Class Painted Flowers Distress Marker

One lady in class commented during a section that we were all finding tricky,  “This is difficult”.
Another replied ” I guess if we all knew how to do this we wouldn’t be here”.
So wonderful and positive,  I just love all my wonderful customers. Thanks for a great morning.

Weekend Fun

This weekend was rather busy with the shop, family and friends. How blessed I am to have so much to do!

Friday night was the Art Journal class, using Distress Ink, Paint and Stain. Here is Kim’s page – I’m loving the colour tones in this.

Saturday after the shop had closed, we had a children’s birthday party scrapbook class held at the shop where we shared the afternoon with 13 little girls (and some helpers who didn’t quite know they’d signed up) as they crafted and chatted the afternoon away. Jo shared a photo with us afterwards – so cute as they left, walking to afternoon tea, hand in hand in rows of two.

The Scrapbook House Geraldton

The Nagle Year 12 Ball was held this weekend too, and how wonderful it is to see our beautiful young people dressed in their finest, on their special day. I think half the town heads out to the Marina, it seems to be “THE” spot for photos, the perfect venue for “Pre- ball greeting and photos”

I had the pleasure of shooting with some friends – they all looked so beautiful.

And my darling hubby had his beloved old car out tonight.

Then we all went out to dinner for my Mum’s birthday – we were late… but we were there! Happy birthday Ma xxx

I’m not sure where Sunday went, but it whizzed by far too quickly. I did go see The INKS at the Freemasons as usual for a few hours – chill time, so good 🙂

Art Journal Class

So… last night was great, we had a room full of enthusiastic creative ladies all getting painty and inky with stencils and stamps doing the “Tim Holtz thing”. They had such a fun time, learning a few new things along the way with their teacher Michelle being very patient and informative.

We had 3 generations attend tonight, I can see that the creative streak runs strong in that family, all newbies to Art Journaling and they did a fabulous job! Looks like we have some newly addicted crafters.

I remember the days when Mum and Nanna would come along with me to Ceramics all those years ago… I treasure those memories of cold nights out in the ceramic studio (the shed) where we would painstakingly sand back our creations then try not to mess them up as we painted them. Oh I loved our nights together.

Thanks so much my art journal friends, it was a great night to spend with you all. I loved catching up with you again, some I haven’t seen in a long time, some I see all the time – its always nice to see your smiling faces.

That’s it for photos tonight, my phone is exhausted and so am I… it’s been a very big couple of weeks.  Time to hit the hay. Tomorrow is another day to share more.

Class with Michelle

These look so different don’t they? In Michelle’s Art Journal class on Friday 20th February you’ll see that everyone’s work will be unique, all using the same techniques. Different colours, stamps and stencils will make it individual. I’m looking forward to seeing all those finished pages!

Dylusions Circle work

Recently I’ve been reacquainted with Pinterest and it’s a trap! I see all the fabulous things and just want to create myself. I can spend hours looking. I saw this great page by “Anna”, with circles of colour and black outlines and knew I wanted to try this for this myself. Blobs of colour… I can do blobs of colour.
This isn’t my original idea, and I’m pretty sure Anna didn’t use Dylusions to colour with, but I just had them on my desk and figured I’d give it a go.  They are so lovely and bright. I used a waterbrush.

I tapped a teeny amount of Dylusions onto a palette and picked it up with the water brush. Happily I discovered that it was perfect blend, no bleeding through the page either, even though I hadn’t bothered to gesso the background.

Pretty soon my page had enough colour.

Add some marker, then some more and it was done. A little useless rambling to add some text. I wanted to make it all poignant and artistic, and yeah, well that wasn’t gonna happen. But not bad for a test shot.

Goodnight, sleep well. xx

Happy girls are the Prettiest

Here is my finished Art Journal page from the other night. The title is done with black marker pen, I printed out the saying then pencilled it on the page first before using my marker. (Zig photo writer pen)

Golden Christmas

This week we introduced the texture tool by Ranger, and our students ran it through the wet gold paint to create their background.

I can’t wait to try these out on texture paste, I think the scalloped one would look terrific!

Once the texture tool had done it’s job, done white Dylusions were splattered about, then left to dry whilst we worked on the rest of the layout.
I really enjoy my classes, this Thursday night class is small and relaxed and I sure have missed teaching these past months. I appreciate the ladies who spend some time with me creating, I am very lucky to be with such nice people. It’s a hard job I know, but someone’s gotta do it.

We have quite a few of these kits available as “takeaway kits” or if you have a group of 5 or more who would like to get together I can arrange to teach it on a day/night that suits you.

Have  great weekend… I hope you get the chance to get crafty.

A surprise every month

Distress Inks are clearly our favourites, they are so versatile and you’ll see us using them in most classes, and many of us have most colours…  so we don’t need more… but oh my oh my,  check this video out at CHA 2015 we have the man himself, Tim Holtz, telling us about the new Distress program and showing off the newest color of 2015, cracked pistachio.

Cracked Pistachio – I NEED it. xxx

You know you want it too… and we have it instore 🙂

Inspired by others

I dusted off the old Art Journal last night, feeling inspired as I have been looking at Michelle’s glorious journals on my front counter all week.  She is holding a great class next Friday night using Distress Ink and it’s been seeping into my thoughts all through the days.

There are some keen students in this class, and after booking in we got to chatting (as we do) and the subject of ‘foam alphabet stamps’ came up. Oh my goodness, I have some of those stashed somewhere! I must remember to go looking, I dug into the box on the piano and found them. Wow, they haven’t been used in years (some look brand new) and I happily stamped out a title for this page. Then I had to stop for dinner (salmon for me tonight, yum, thanks Andrew xxx)

Later I decided to start another… so this one has a layer of Distress Paint (Antique linen), then texure paste through a stencil (I sprinkled a little clear embossing powder to see if it would add a little ‘something’) and heat set. Sprayed some Glimmermist, but that didn’t take very well, so blotted it off and then used a foam dauber to add Distress Ink ( fired brick &  aged mahogany). Stamped with black archival ink and then loved that “negative” stamp so much I thought I might put a few little photos in there too.

If anyone knows me they’d know it takes me forever, so it was  getting mighty late by now, and I was  going to be tired and grumpy pants in the morning, so I called it quits after I chose my title… but I left a HUGE mess on my desk all ready to get back to it after class tonight.

I’ll post the full page tomorrow when the title is done… I’m thinking I might trace off an Audrey Hepburn quote…. you know, the “happy girls, pretty girls” one, seeing as I have a few pretty girls photos on my page.

Night xx

Valentine idea

One of my beautiful customers handmade this and gave it to me…

Isn’t it just beee-u-tiful? Sweet little sentiments like this are just the best, they make my heart smile and the beautiful friends in my life know just how I love receiving them.

It would also make a perfect gift on Valentine’s Day, not that’s it’s here yet, but the weekend is fast approaching and it’ll be here before you know it. I can’t crochet to save myself, but I do have an idea for a card to add to that box of chocolates to give to the love of your life, you still have a few days left.

How about something like this?

card iheartyou

I’ve embossed the background, and stamped the hearts twice each. Once on the embossed background and again on a flat card then coloured and cut out, ready to attach with foam tape. Add a greeting ( iheartyou ) and a little ribbon.

We have plenty of cardmaking products all supplied right here at your favourite scrapbook shop!

Pop Up Card

We are making this fun card in a box style in today’s 10:30 class, I love these colours and the girls are going to love those butterflies! They are stickers so this will be a very easy class to put together. We also have a few simple cards to make using the rest of the papers if we have time.

Kits are available with papers an instructions, just ask and we can post them out to you.

Have a great day

Exploding popularity

My blog is more than a little neglected these past couple of years, Facebook took precedence as it was more interactive and user friendly, but today, this blog got my attention again. Seems the stats, which I once studied carefully and now don’t even check on, have exploded recently.
All due to my ‘exploding box tutorial‘ from way back. It’s still so very popular. Today there were over 600 views for this and over 300 downloaded my instructions… that’s just today. That’s pretty big stats for my little blog… and kinda makes me smile. I’m hoping that a whole bunch of people make something beautiful for someone using those instructions.

So, this gets me thinking… what would make this blog come alive again? What would I need to post to keep it interesting for me, as well as for the potential reader? Got any ideas? Please leave a comment…

What would you like to see more of here?

Anyhow, I’m just glad that one of my posts is still being seen – thanks for that internet world! xx

Take care

Variety Club Dinner

The Midwest branch of the Children’s Variety Club holds a special place in my heart, and there’s not much I can offer to help this amazing charity in way of time or money, but I was pretty happy to be asked to make some thankyou tags to thank the sponsors at their Dinner.

This is what I came up with last year…

2013 thank you tags

This year for their Midwest Getaway Bash, the theme is “Around the World in 80 hours” and I know they are going to have a blast. I’ll be following The Hippies – Car 9 and their antics on Facebook. Should prove to be entertaining!

They leave Friday morning, you can go down and check out the cars at the start line. They will be having breakfast at the Indian Sunset and leave from the vacant block next to Mitchell and Brown. First car out at 8am.
Follow them on Facebook

I hope they have fun!

Why should we remember?

Today marks the 100 year anniversary of the first outbreak of the First World War.

Why should we remember?
“Why should we stop and think about those events that happened so long ago? By the end of the First World War there were very few people in the countries that took part who remained unaffected.
The war reached out and touched almost everyone’s life in some way or another”.

It’s our lives, our history, our story. We learn from the past and try our best to make things better for the descendants to come. War isn’t something I have had to live with or live through, my Grandparents did. The devastation, heartache, and magnitude of loss affects us. Remembering helps educate future generations to understand.

I thought today would be a fitting day to share Rita’s recent creation for a gentleman as a keepsake for his military history memoirs.

She has used the new military chipboard pieces and painted them up with various colours. They look great. I am sure the recipient will love this.

Design Team – Baby album

Last night I came home on such a high after being with 6 talented and lovely ladies. We had a Saturday night designers night and all those who create for The Scrapbook House currently came together. We began with dinner (thanks to China Moon – yum) and then we began working out what we would do to make my idea come to life.

What then happened makes me so proud to be amongst them and honoured to be friends with these creative ladies.

Celeste Glover – Vivienne Crudeli – Sharon Drown

Shelley Epps – Michelle Hearnden – Pamela Haggas

I rambled on about what I had in mind, a baby album that could be completed in as little time as possible, using the best products we could get, and looking as fabulous as one would expect from our designers. (they let me ramble too, I’m always scared I’ll forget something so its easier to just not take a breath)

Oh… and I wanted 20 pages or more.

Having spent a long time to think about this, and had clear idea of what would be best for our customers, and who this album would suit. I excitedly waffled on about the details and they all just looked at me for a long time.

Yes, I wanted 20 pages….

or more…

This has been in my mind for years and years. (I’m not going to tell you how long, because that just shows you how I overthink things, procrastinate and don’t follow through with my ideas… and that’d make me look bad –  hehe)

So, I didn’t know how to do it, I just knew that I needed help. The Wedding Album Class I ran a few years back literally took me months to complete and kits. Months.

I had 6 designers , all with varying strengths, talents and styles, who I wanted to work together.  Could they do it? I was sure they could, I was sure they would create exactly what I had in mind. The next hour or so would tell just how well it would work.

What you wouldn’t expect was that we would all work together on all the pages at once.  So there was 7 of us, all at once, all pitching in, cutting, sticking, helping on all the pages. All in one go. I’ve never seen this before and what a wonderful experience it was to see everyone working together and for this beautiful album come together so perfectly. Each offering ideas and helping on one another, and supporting each other even when the inks and gesso, stamps and die cut machines were put out of reach. It was hard – challenge accepted and completed!

All 24 pages. Twenty four! These ladies are amazing!

We have a complete album, ready for display and it’s exactly what I dreamed of. This is going to be the most epic baby album class ever seen. One kit, for the whole album, easy for anyone to complete, with the option of doing it in class, or take-away kits.

I can’t wait to share it with you!

TaniaThanks to Celeste, Shelley, Sharon, Michelle, Viv and Sharon for a great night!

Hoppy Birthday

We love it when our scrapbooking friends share what they have been working on, and recently there have been a few shares that I have been quick enough to photograph. Maree shared some cards with us to show you. This one is her Hoppy Birthday card, mostly hand cut, and a flower punch. (Imagine her delight when I showed her the cuttlebug machine and how quickly a rosette can be created now)

All those reeds, they’re handout and double layered for strength.  I know Maree must have put a lot of love into making this card for her friend. This card folds in 3 layers, pretty special.

Thank you so much for sharing Maree, I am sure your card was received with pleasure.
