Colouring Craze

See the special offer at the end of this post…
 Were you one of the many that got yourself an adults colouring book when the craze hit? Perhaps you’re like me and started doing a couple of pages, then left it and went onto other things when you realised just how loooonnnggg it takes to complete an adults page? Maybe you need motivation? Maybe you need the blender pen! (Come see me about that one)

There’s a great colouring network group on Facebook for the Midwest, go check them out, they post regular challenges and share work. I hardly post there, but I regularly stalk the page.

Because this page existed and kept showing up in my newsfeed, I was reminded of that book and pencils I just HAD to have… and to get it out.  I actually love colouring in,  some of my pages done whilst in hospital will be at the end of this post, coloured with Prima Pencils and a Blender Pen. It might just be the inspiration you needed, like it was for me. Either way, it’s a great page for Midwest Colourists and you might make a new friend or two.

Anyhow, go join up, click “like” here and there and maybe you’ll be inspired too. You’ll find them here at Geraldton and Midwest Colouring

Oh and we have HALF PRICE colouring on any books in store right now. HALF PRICE!!

That’s right – HALF PRICE colouring on any books in store right now.
~~~~~HALF PRICE!!~~~~~
Watercolour your World
When Emily came to town I couldn’t wait to give her these sets of watercolours, check out what we created with them.
watercolour craze
Watercolour Confections: just like a tin of sweet confections our new watercolour tins are filled with wonderful, delightful watercolour pans in a decadent array artist-grade, high quality, and highly pigmented watercolour pans. Each tin includes flip-out mixing trays and superb features for the artist on the go! Available in Decadent Pies, Tropicals, and The Classics. (Psst…Decadent Pies has four metallic pans included!)
 We had fun in our art journals, the colours are so vibrant and luscious. I can’t wait to include these in a class somehow.
Have a colourful day
Today’s Crafting fun
Out with the markers and aquash brushes today to paint up these cards designed by Sharon. It was challenging as we had to try out different techniques with brushes, markers, crackle medium and pearl paints. Topping this off with the new white distress marker made this something really new for our ladies. It was a little daunting to think we had to “paint” colour onto our flowers, but we were all so very impressed at just how lovely each one turned out.
Card Class Painted Flowers Distress Marker
One lady in class commented during a section that we were all finding tricky,  “This is difficult”.
Another replied ” I guess if we all knew how to do this we wouldn’t be here”.
So wonderful and positive,  I just love all my wonderful customers. Thanks for a great morning.
Golden Christmas
This week we introduced the texture tool by Ranger, and our students ran it through the wet gold paint to create their background.
I can’t wait to try these out on texture paste, I think the scalloped one would look terrific!
Once the texture tool had done it’s job, done white Dylusions were splattered about, then left to dry whilst we worked on the rest of the layout.
I really enjoy my classes, this Thursday night class is small and relaxed and I sure have missed teaching these past months. I appreciate the ladies who spend some time with me creating, I am very lucky to be with such nice people. It’s a hard job I know, but someone’s gotta do it.
We have quite a few of these kits available as “takeaway kits” or if you have a group of 5 or more who would like to get together I can arrange to teach it on a day/night that suits you.
Have  great weekend… I hope you get the chance to get crafty.
A surprise every month
Distress Inks are clearly our favourites, they are so versatile and you’ll see us using them in most classes, and many of us have most colours…  so we don’t need more… but oh my oh my,  check this video out at CHA 2015 we have the man himself, Tim Holtz, telling us about the new Distress program and showing off the newest color of 2015, cracked pistachio.
Cracked Pistachio – I NEED it. xxx
You know you want it too… and we have it instore 🙂
Design Team – Baby album
Last night I came home on such a high after being with 6 talented and lovely ladies. We had a Saturday night designers night and all those who create for The Scrapbook House currently came together. We began with dinner (thanks to China Moon – yum) and then we began working out what we would do to make my idea come to life.
What then happened makes me so proud to be amongst them and honoured to be friends with these creative ladies.
Celeste Glover – Vivienne Crudeli – Sharon Drown
Shelley Epps – Michelle Hearnden – Pamela Haggas
I rambled on about what I had in mind, a baby album that could be completed in as little time as possible, using the best products we could get, and looking as fabulous as one would expect from our designers. (they let me ramble too, I’m always scared I’ll forget something so its easier to just not take a breath)
Oh… and I wanted 20 pages or more.
Having spent a long time to think about this, and had clear idea of what would be best for our customers, and who this album would suit. I excitedly waffled on about the details and they all just looked at me for a long time.
Yes, I wanted 20 pages….
or more…
This has been in my mind for years and years. (I’m not going to tell you how long, because that just shows you how I overthink things, procrastinate and don’t follow through with my ideas… and that’d make me look bad –  hehe)
So, I didn’t know how to do it, I just knew that I needed help. The Wedding Album Class I ran a few years back literally took me months to complete and kits. Months.
I had 6 designers , all with varying strengths, talents and styles, who I wanted to work together.  Could they do it? I was sure they could, I was sure they would create exactly what I had in mind. The next hour or so would tell just how well it would work.
What you wouldn’t expect was that we would all work together on all the pages at once.  So there was 7 of us, all at once, all pitching in, cutting, sticking, helping on all the pages. All in one go. I’ve never seen this before and what a wonderful experience it was to see everyone working together and for this beautiful album come together so perfectly. Each offering ideas and helping on one another, and supporting each other even when the inks and gesso, stamps and die cut machines were put out of reach. It was hard – challenge accepted and completed!
All 24 pages. Twenty four! These ladies are amazing!
We have a complete album, ready for display and it’s exactly what I dreamed of. This is going to be the most epic baby album class ever seen. One kit, for the whole album, easy for anyone to complete, with the option of doing it in class, or take-away kits.
I can’t wait to share it with you!
TaniaThanks to Celeste, Shelley, Sharon, Michelle, Viv and Sharon for a great night!
Mothers Day cards for kids
I’m lucky enough to be volunteering at a local school tomorrow morning to make Mothers Day cards with the little ones. I love doing this so much!
I had to come up with an idea quickly, one that little fingers would be able to do easily and that I had enough stock for 20 kids to play with. We have LOTS of packs of buttons in the shop all staring at me wishing I would choose them… so I did. Do you love that “button saying”? It’s an oldie but a goodie.
Button Mothers Day card
This won’t take long for them to do, each child will choose a patterned paper and then choose their own coloured buttons to stick on… Hoping they will have fun. x
Class One
These ladies are embarking on the art journaling journey, and as I left the store they were all introducing themselves. In just a few short weeks they’ll all get to know each other and be sharing and inspiring each other with the arty directions they take.
And getting grotty fingers… Hehe
Art Journaling Class 1 2014
I hope they love their kits and have a lot of fun!
Here’s a couple of pages in my art journal, I was inspired by someone but I can’t remember who… all I know is that it’s not my original idea.
Create Art Journal Page I'm an artistI’ve painted the background with acrylic paint, then added scrap paper circles and triangles. Leaves, stems and petals are drawn on in pen as well as the “hills and foreground”. I’ve also added random stamping too, and then a little bakers twine for the banner.
Each is stamped in the centre with a cute stamp “I’m an artist”. I figure if you say it enough, you might just start believing it. Haha.
And here’s one from my “Class 1” Backgrounds class with Michelle from way back.
What makes me smile
The tags are only stuck on the ends, so you can flip them up to read the journaling underneath. Fun and bright hey?
Have a good one!
Share the Washi Love
Over 400 rolls of Washi tape rolled into our store today, it had Sharon and I in a dilemma… How much can we smuggle home? Keep reading if you’d like a get a couple of free rolls for yourself.
So… What’s your favourite use for Washi? I was thinking it would be nice for gift wrapping (picturing Kraft wrap, bakers twine and matching Washi)
20130605-140804.jpgIf you have an idea… Leave me a note or a link in the comments in the next week and next Wednesday night I will (randomly) choose someone to get some Washi sent to them! (Australia only please) or, if you’d like to buy some, get on in to our store quick!
Looking forward to your comments and ideas.
Have fun!
Did you miss me?
No… I didn’t think so. 😛
But I am back into blogging anyway.
I am amazed at how long I didn’t blog for… the first time in over 6 years where I didn’t post for months! Oh well, that’s behind now and we can look forward.
We have had some great classes and I have had fun and games with my family too. I guess lots of us have. Sharon, Emily and I have been busily working away in the store. Kira will be back soon, so I am looking forward to some time to post here again.
We have some fun things coming up in term classes and retreat is on the horizon so we will have some great photos to look forward to as usual. We are heading to Paris for the Weekend (also know as back of Geraldton, Moonyoonooka, haha).
So… how have you been?
Scrapbooking Studio
This is where the magic happens!
And it’s going to happen this week a lot!
Classes are starting for Term Two on Tuesday morning and Tuesday night, and they look fabulous! We have great designers and the first adult class is by Sharon Drown… I will introduce you a little better to our whole team very soon as I just realize I haven’t done that for a while… Naughty me!
Then we move onto the card making class on Wednesday morning.Thursday is another scrapbooking class and then Saturday the kids get to have a play!
I love our classroom, or (workroom as it is affectionately known) as its the place where so much has been shared, thank goodness those walls don’t talk… “What is said in the room… Stays in the room”. Unless of course its fabulous gossip then we’ll all got share with ten people each and put it on Facebook!
Seriously though, many a friendship has been made here, between many a person over many a year.
Love this place.
Don’t forget we kit each class if you can’t make it to our “studio” so you can still join in with our awesome classes. I have 5 kits for each scrapbooking class of Term 2 left to sell, approx 5 card making kits and 1 kids class space left.
Fifteen Hundred.
That is quite a number. 1500.
That’s the amount of times I have pressed the button “publish” to this blog.
WordPress sends me numbers.
The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 57,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 21 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.
Numbers. Numbers. Numbers.
I actually like numbers. Shhh, don’t tell my Math teacher. In all reality you probably can’t because he will be in an old-people -home by now.
Now don’t assume that I would think any of my posts could even slightly compared to anything  of the mighty Sydney Opera House, even the front steps! It was WordPress that  sent me the figures. I guess they wanted to make me feel good.
In fact it is you, who makes me feel good. You make me feel that I am not alone. Whether you realise or not, it is you. You respond when I write about scrapbooking, post a new must- have product or put up a page someone has been working in, whether you come in to my little store,  book for a remote class kit to be sent to you, or repin a favourite picture to Pinterest, I notice. You are there listening to my trials and tribulations of being a mother of twins, a growing girl or a handicapped boy. You leave me notes of encouragement and advice, you come back again and again bumping the “hits” up to read updates… I see you. I notice you there. Whether it is a fleeting visit, or you come back often to see what we are up to, I notice your presence and I am grateful for it. You make me  aware that I have the most amazing family and friends, blog readers, staff and customers and ‘people who just pop in’,  who “care” enough to do so.
I am the owner of a scrapbook store and it’s not like I am going to take over the world or become wealthy, but I feel very proud to have the important job of sharing the creative joy of scrapbooking with you. Be it with inspiration or fancy products, it is all the same, it’s about sharing the story. You are entrusted with the important task of recording your story, you will tell it the best, and it will be there for future generations. Your art, your pages, your photographs. Your story.
So go forth and scrapbook! Oh… and leave me a note in the comments field and I will have something special for you.
 and here is a photo from my project – taken at Point Moore Beach – Geraldton20120118-000335.jpg
Have you ever renovated? It’s a mammoth task to co-ordinate in a store, but we are getting there. This is why you haven’t heard from me much here on the blogscene, but we are OPEN still for business, if you are in Geraldton, come by to say hello and see the works-in-progress.
It’s also very exciting… to see new things going in makes me feel so happy,  (I think that new things make most people happy)  but to have everyone on our team showing up and completing each task set on time is something to be grateful for. Most reno’s you hear about have drama here and there.. but not ours. Well, not much anyhow. Maybe I shouldn’t talk too soon. Quick.. go touch some wood.
Those following us on facebook would have seen the images of our work, it’s fun to see the progress. It’s even funner ( yes I am aware that is not a word) to be seeing it all happen in real life… day by day, night by night too. This is something I have been planning for years, buying for and looking forward to. I have always wanted this for the store and it’s about time. My Mum always said good things come to those who wait (and plan and research and save) and it’s my turn now.
I feel like my dreams are coming true.
I must admit that it took the ceiling storm damage to prompt me to bring the refit forward to this November… it was due in 2012, but there’s nothing like a little push in the right direction to get you motivated. Right?
Follow along on the facebook photo album to see it in progress day-to-day and read comments on each photo. click here
Have a great weekend!
